On
May 18, 2009, The New York Times published
an obituary for Stein that largely recounts
the artist's association with the legendary
New York jazz scene. Starting in the late
1950s, Stein painted a full sized wall mural
at the Village Vanguard, the famous jazz
club in Greenwich Village. The NYT obit
links to the interview with Philip Stein
that was conducted in February 2004 - and
now archived on this website. The
Spanish language website, Mundo
de Hoy, published an obituary on
the passing of Estaño. Read an English translation
of the obit, here.
This
website will continue to showcase the stirring
artworks of Stein, the American social realist
painter. It
is the premiere online gallery for his art
and legacy, as well as an international
educational resource for artists, students,
and art lovers.
